Immerse yourself in a longer mountain journey. These multi-day trips combine exploring some of the UK’s most beautiful mountain landscapes with the skills and mindset that make backpacking possible.
From planning routes and managing kit to staying comfortable and confident in changing conditions, there’s loads to discover. You’ll come away with skills to carry forward on future adventures, whether that’s in the UK or on bigger trails like the GR5 or the Pacific Crest Trail.
Guided multi-day backpacking
A deeper mountain journey
There’s a special kind of satisfaction that comes from travelling through the mountains for days, weeks or even months on end with total independence and freedom. Knowing that you have everything you need on your back; setting up camp each night and waking up somewhere new each morning. This slow-burn immersion is what makes backpacking so special. It connects you to the landscape and teaches you how to rely on yourself in a way that’ll stay with you long after you get back home.
But learning to backpack can easily become a painful (and heavy!) learning process without some basic knowledge. Understanding how to balance comfort with pack weight and adapting to the weather often makes the difference between enduring a trip and enjoying it. We’ll focus on developing a combination of skillsets that blend planning, adaptability and resilience.
This trip will bring these elements together in a relaxed and fun way. My goal is to help you to build the confidence to travel further and feel truly at home in the mountains.
Who it’s for
This experience is perfect for walkers looking to take the next step beyond single-day trips, or for anyone preparing for longer hiking routes overseas. I’ve got years of experience backpacking all over the world, and I’ll tailor this experience to meet your specific goals.
You don’t need to be super fit, just comfortable with walking for several hours a day with a (reasonably!) heavy rucksack.
What you’ll learn
You’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills to plan and enjoy your own long-distance hikes, with a focus on low-impact, lightweight travel. During our time together, we’ll cover:
How to plan and prepare for multi-day routes in the UK or overseas
Finding the kit and systems that will work for you across a range of future trips
Food planning and cooking
Campsite selection and camping laws
Adapting to challenging weather conditions
Navigation refresh and emergency bail-out plans
Environmental and Leave No Trace principles
Along the way, I’ll share insights from my own long-distance backpacking journeys across mountain ranges in the UK and abroad, including how backpacking can open the door to bigger adventures in the Alps or the Caucasus Mountains.
What to expect
Each trip is tailored to your experience level and individual goals. Together we’ll plan a short, multi-day journey through one of the UK’s mountain regions, such as the Lake District, Eryri or the Scottish Highlands.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to manage your kit; plan the days route, set up camp, and refine your systems. Evenings are relaxed with plenty of time to cook, reflect and chat through what worked, and what didn’t. By the end of the trip, you’ll have the skills and confidence to plan your own backpacking journeys.
I aim to make these trips as relaxed and flexible as possible. We’ll be able to access remote places that only backpackers can enjoy. This can also present some unforgettable opportunities for photography and spotting wildlife.
