Step into the rhythm of a proper mountain journey. These multi-day adventures combine the joy of exploring some of the UK’s most beautiful mountain landscapes with the skills and mindset that make longer hikes so immersive and rewarding.

From planning routes and managing kit weight to staying comfortable and confident in changing conditions, you’ll learn by doing. You’ll come away with experiences that you can carry forward into future adventures, whether in the UK or on bigger trails like the GR5 or the Pacific Crest Trail.

Guided multi-day backpacking

A deeper mountain journey

There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from travelling through the mountains for days, weeks or even months on end, with absolute independence and freedom. Knowing that you have everything you need on your back; setting up camp each night and waking up somewhere new each morning. This is the slow-burn immersion that makes backpacking so special. It connects you to the landscape and teaches you how to rely on yourself in a way that can even benefit your life back at home as well.

But learning to backpack can easily become a painful (and heavy!) learning process without some basic knowledge. Understanding how to balance comfort with pack weight; read the weather and adapt to what each day brings will make the difference between enduring a trip and actually enjoying it. You’ll find yourself developing a combination of skillsets that blend planning, adaptability and resilience.

This trip will bring these elements together in a relaxed and fun way. My goal is to help you to build the confidence to travel further and feel truly at home in the mountains.

Who it’s for

This experience is perfect for walkers looking to take the next step beyond single-day trips, or for anyone preparing for longer backpacking or trekking routes overseas. I have extensive experience backpacking all over the world, and I can tailor this experience to meet your specific goals.

You don’t need to be an athlete - just comfortable walking for several hours a day with a rucksack and keen to learn.

What you’ll learn

You’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills to plan and enjoy your own long-distance hikes, with a focus on low-impact, lightweight travel. During our time together, we’ll cover:

  • How to plan and prepare for multi-day trips in the UK or overseas

  • Route planning, logistics, and managing distance and ascent

  • Lightweight backpacking and equipment choices

  • Food planning and fuel efficiency

  • Campsite selection and overnight routines

  • Weather awareness and adapting to changing conditions

  • Navigation refresh and emergency procedures

  • Environmental and Leave No Trace principles

Along the way, I’ll share insights from my own long-distance backpacking journeys across mountain ranges in the UK and abroad, including how backpacking can open the door to bigger adventures in the Alps or the Caucasus Mountains.

What to expect

Each trip is tailored to your experience level and individual goals. Together we’ll plan a short multi-day journey through one of the UK’s mountain regions, such as the Lake District, Eryri or the Scottish Highlands.

Along the way, you’ll learn by doing. Managing your kit; planning daily distances, setting up camp, and refining your routine will all start to come naturally. Evenings are relaxed - there’s plenty of time to cook, reflect and chat through what worked (and what didn’t). By the end of the trip, you’ll have the skills and confidence to plan your own backpacking journeys.

I aim to make these trips as relaxed and flexible as possible - depending on our location, we might be able to access some remote locations that only backpackers can enjoy. Wild camping can also present some unforgettable opportunities for photography and spotting wildlife.
